The total crypto market capitalization stood at $2.77 trillion as of Monday, down 4.44% over the past 24 hours — a loss of roughly $128 billion in value industry-wide. Bitcoin, the bellwether for the asset class, fell 2.26% to $81,748.94, a comparatively modest decline that pushed its share of total market cap to 59.29%, up from prior levels as traders rotated out of riskier altcoins. Trading volume across the market totaled $83.87 billion for the day, with 22,204 active cryptocurrencies tracked.
The pain was concentrated in names that had been generating the most search interest. Starknet's STRK token tumbled 29.59% to $0.0847, while NEAR Protocol dropped 14.29% to $5.04, landing it on CoinGecko's list of worst 24-hour performers alongside Ethena, which fell 13.34% to $0.2056. A token called Bunker Mode, ranked 911 by market cap, posted the steepest decline of any trending coin, crashing 35.04% to $0.018. Wormhole's W token lost 13.03%, and Solana slid 5.08% to $105.51.
Not every trending name fell. Pearl, a token ranked 113th by market cap, bucked the trend with an 11.75% gain to $1.55, the lone bright spot among the session's most-searched coins. Among assets large enough to register on broader gainer lists, the moves were far less dramatic: Bitway rose 7.11% to $1.74, while a cluster of stablecoins — USD1, Global Dollar, Ondo's USDY and USDC — registered gains of less than a quarter of one percent, reflecting their peg mechanics rather than any market enthusiasm.
Ethereum, which held a 10.77% share of total market cap, was not listed among the day's trending searches or top movers, suggesting the selloff's sharpest edges fell on mid-cap and newer tokens rather than the two largest cryptocurrencies. Other names swept into the decline included Hyperliquid, down 6.16% to $81.31; Aave, off 8.56% to $156.76; Pump.fun, down 11.67%; and Quant, which slipped 4.99% to $225.82.
NEAR Protocol's slide stands out for its combination of scale and visibility: as a top-21 asset by market capitalization, its nearly 14% drop represents one of the largest single-day value losses among coins with significant market weight, and it was the only major-cap trending token to also appear on the official top-losers list — a sign that its decline was broad-based rather than confined to search interest alone.
