Zcash Leads a Market in Retreat, Jumping Past $1,200 as Privacy Coins Catch a Bid

Crypto's total market cap slipped 2% in 24 hours, but Zcash didn't get the memo — it's up nearly 9% and sitting above $1,200.

Zcash Leads a Market in Retreat, Jumping Past $1,200 as Privacy Coins Catch a Bid

Market snapshot

The global crypto market cap stands at $2.79 trillion as of Thursday, down 1.96% over the past 24 hours, with Bitcoin dominance holding firm at 59.4%. Trading volume across the sector topped $1 trillion in the same period, suggesting the pullback came with real participation rather than a quiet drift lower. Despite the broader red tape, pockets of strength emerged, and nowhere more visibly than in Zcash.

Zcash breaks out

ZEC is trading at $1,233.98, up 8.63% on the day and now ranked the 10th-largest cryptocurrency by market cap. The move puts Zcash among CoinGecko's most-searched coins globally, alongside smaller-cap names like Quantus and Pearl. A privacy-focused coin pushing into four-figure territory while the broader market cap contracts is the kind of divergence that tends to draw attention — ZEC's gain stands out as the single largest among top-50 assets by market cap tracked in today's data.

Gainers: NEAR tops the list, but Zcash isn't far behind

NEAR Protocol posted the day's biggest gain among major coins, up 10.5% to $5.32. Ondo Finance climbed 6.4% to $0.472, Rain added 6.1% to reach $0.0097, and Ethena rose 5.8% to $0.207. Zcash's 8.6% gain placed it second on the broader gainers list but first in terms of market cap rank and dollar price — a notable contrast given it sits in the top 10 by size while the other gainers rank between 19th and 47th.

Losers: Bitway slides, Canton and OKB also under pressure

On the downside, Bitway dropped 21.8% to $1.86, by far the steepest decline of any token tracked today. Canton fell 7.5% to $0.106, OKB slipped 4.5% to $117.11, and Pump.fun eased 4.2% to $0.0045. BlackRock's USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) was flat at exactly $1, as expected for a tokenized money-market product pegged to par.

The trending picture

Beyond ZEC, the trending-search charts were dominated by smaller tokens posting extreme swings: Streamoors surged over 1,434% to $0.0233, and IGNITION gained 89% to $0.0186 — moves typical of thinly traded, low-rank tokens rather than signals of broad market direction. LayerZero (up 15.6% to $2.19) and Starknet (up 12.1% to $0.087) also drew search interest with double-digit gains. But against a backdrop of a shrinking total market cap, Zcash's run — combined with its size and liquidity — makes it the standout story of the day.
