Crypto Market Sheds Nearly 6% as Bitcoin Slides Below $79K; Hyperliquid Bucks the Rout

While most of the market bled red Wednesday, one token nobody saw coming — Super Pepe — rocketed 239% to become crypto's wildest outlier.

Crypto Market Sheds Nearly 6% as Bitcoin Slides Below $79K; Hyperliquid Bucks the Rout

The global crypto market capitalization fell to $2.65 trillion, down 5.72% over the past 24 hours, as selling pressure swept across nearly every major asset. Bitcoin dropped 2.83% to $78,825, while Ethereum fell harder, losing 3.66% to trade at $2,268. Total trading volume over the period hit $107.9 billion, reflecting the scale of the sell-off. Bitcoin's dominance held at 59.5% of the total market, meaning smaller tokens absorbed the brunt of the damage relative to the leading cryptocurrency.

Hyperliquid was the session's standout, climbing 12.9% to $91.04 even as the broader market cratered — a divergence that stood out sharply against a sea of double-digit losses elsewhere. The token ranks 10th by market capitalization, and its gain was the largest among top movers tracked across both the trending list and the day's leading gainers. TRON also posted a modest advance, up 4.01% to $0.343, while privacy coin Monero rose 2.64% to $614.36, continuing a trend of relative strength in older, less speculative assets.

On the losing end, Ethena's ENA token was the day's biggest decliner among widely tracked coins, falling 16.1% to $0.175. The drop pulled Ethena out of step with peers and marked one of the steepest single-day losses of any token in the top 50 by market cap. NEAR Protocol wasn't far behind, sliding 14.02% to $4.08, while Pepe dropped 12.32% to $0.00000444. Uniswap's UNI token fell 11.94% to $6.38, rounding out a group of five tokens that each lost more than 10% of their value in 24 hours.

The trending search data underscored how broad the pullback was. Of the fifteen most-searched coins, eleven posted losses, including Aave (down 10.71% to $119.74), Chainlink (down 9.12% to $10.70), Pudgy Penguins (down 10.56% to $0.0071), BNB (down 6.63% to $705.23) and Solana (down 5.33% to $96.78). Only Hyperliquid, Monero, Super Pepe and the still-unexplained spike in lesser-known tokens managed to swim against the tide.

Super Pepe's 239% surge to $0.018 was the single largest percentage move in the dataset, though the token ranks 909th by market capitalization, a reminder that outsized gains in micro-cap names often carry outsized risk and thin liquidity. With active cryptocurrencies now numbering over 22,500, Wednesday's divergence between a handful of gainers and a market-wide retreat illustrates how fragmented sentiment has become even as the overall market trends firmly lower.
